Conceived by Terry Nation (the creator of the Daleks and Blake’s 7), Survivors is a groundbreaking and startlingly realistic television drama series. First aired in 1975 at the height of the Cold War, Survivors post-apocalyptic storylines immediately gripped the imagination of the British public and remain compelling viewing to this day.
This second series of thirteen episodes is set a year after the global pandemic which claimed the lives of 99.9% of the world’s population and charts the continuing struggles of a small band of survivors in the dangerous new world left behind by ‘The Death’. Picking up the storyline six months after the events of the first series, the action follows Greg Preston (Ian McCulloch) as he visits Whitecross to meet up with self-sufficiency expert Charles Vaughan (Denis Lill) again. Jenny (Lucy Fleming) is now heavily pregnant with Greg’s baby and is understandably keen to have absent medical student Ruth (Celia Gregory) present at the birth. Greg is determined to locate her, but catastrophe strikes while he is away and a terrible fire destroys the Grange. Reunited with Jenny and the other survivors of the blaze, Greg decides they have no choice but to join the community at Whitecross. There they meet Charles partner Pet (Lorna Lewis), shepherd Hurbert (John Abineri) and carpenter Jack (Gordon Salkilld). The new year brings new perils for the survivors, including: a memorable journey to the heart of rat-infested London; the menace of a deadly sniper, in an episode penned by Ian McCulloch (Greg) himself; and the ever present threat of disease
