The hypnotic Knives And Skin follows the investigation of a young girl’s disappearance, led by an inexperienced local sheriff, in a stylized version of a rural Midwest town that hovers just above reality. The ripple of fear and suspicion within the community destroys some relationships … and strengthens others. The backdrop of despair colors the quintessential rituals of small town life — courtship, dances, football games — in which the local teenagers experience an accelerated loss of innocence, while their parents are forced to confront their failures.
