This acclaimed Spanish drama begins its story in Mallorca, 1936 where the Spanish civil war is bringing violence and death to local villages and communities. The bitter fighting and recriminations do not only affect adults but also introduces revenge and killing to the local children. Ramallo, Tur and Francisca witness a brutal killing and their lives are changed forever.

Ten years later and Francesca is a nun working in an all male tuberculosis sanatorium where Tur is an inmate. Ramollo is soon to join them and the horrors of the past soon come back to haunt them as those around them succumb to their illness and die. The three young people cope with the situation in different ways. As Tur’s sickness worsens, his religious obsession grows and so does his hidden desire for Ramollo…
