HEART OF THE WARRIOR - This 2000 Spanish film was a highlight of the 2000
FantAsia film festival for many people (the Diabolik DVD crew included).
What starts out as a seeming juvenile fantasy film ala CONAN or DUNGEONS
AND DRAGONS soon becomes not only a biting political satire but an oddball
comedy like the works of fellow country-mate Alex de la Iglesia but without
Iglesia's unfortunate meanspiritedness. With bizarre and engaging
characters and endless plot twists and turns (not to mention fantastic special fx), this stands as one of the
best fantasy films to emerge from Spain of late (which says a lot,
considering that country's superb output these last few years).
