A Portuguese mercenary has returned home after many years in the East
(Thailand) to report to King Johan III of Portugal. The mercenary spoke of many
things, beautiful landscapes, flavorful spices, and a wonderful people, but
mostly he spoke of Queen Suriyothai. Her strength of mind and character
blossomed in her kingdom's most trying times. He told of her willingness to make
the ultimate sacrifice to unite her people against a powerful enemy, thus making
