Turn-of-the-century Irish carnival performer Angus (Rufus Sewell)dreams of making it big in America. Upon learning of a real live mermaid (Rya Kihlstedt)imprisoned in an old man's mansion, Angus steals the lovely but lethal creature and boards a ship en route for the U.S., intent on realizing his dream of stardom. However, unknown to Rufus or his companion and fellow performer Lily (Carla Gugino), the mermaid has other plans for the ship and her passengers. Lily's perusal of a journal kept by the old man's deceased wife hints at the dark events prior to her demise, and echos Lily's own flirtation with her mermaid-induced madness. Darkly atmospheric, She Creature builds a clausterphobic creepiness that ultimately explodes with the horror of the creature's transformation from beauty to beast.
