While ostensibly a family film,
this 1999 Swedish film from director Harald Hamrell manages to provide more
than its share of scares and it approaches its dark subject matter with a
sense of mature intelligence. Unlike Hollywood films aimed toward a family
audience, A WITCH IN THE FAMILY is not a film for kids only and thus does
not talk down to its audience. The location photography is superb, the film
is well-acted and the story is filled with bizarre and often shocking plot
twists that will entertain hardcore horror/fantasy fans looking for
something unusual
