BOOT HILL - LIMITED EDITION DVD
In this classic spaghetti western by
Giuseppe Colizzi Cat Stevens (Terence Hill) hides out in Lionel Stander's
travelling circus after being shot while trying to stop a vicious outlaw gang
that has hired out to a mining magnate and town boss (Victor Buono) who is using
strong-arm tactics to force local miners to sell out their claims to him. Also
in the cast are Bud Spencer as retired insurance investigator Hutch Bessey, who
reluctantly agrees to help Cat, Woody Strode as a circus performer with his own
score to settle with the gang, and Eduardo Cianelli as a sympathetic judge who
suspects that Buono isn't on the up and up.
BOOT HILL possesses many of the
earmarks and excesses that characterize Giuseppe Colizzi's films like the circus
motif that lends the film a distinctly foreign ambience and perhaps gives a nod
to the main form of entertainment that dominated Italy throughout the Middle
Ages.
While BOOT HILL lacks the high
humor of the Hill-Spencer Trinity films, it is no less a Hill-Spencer vehicle.
It replaces humor with loads of action and a satisfyingly violent resolution
that places it in the front ranks of enjoyable Italian Western fare. - Chas
