| Director Takashi Miike is known for presenting his viewers with an abrasive barrage of transgressive and incendiary images. FUDOH had a girl shooting blowdarts from her vagina. AUDITION had toe-curling scenes of prolonged torture. VISITOR Q feaured scenes of necrophilic rape. DEAD OR ALIVE sported simulated dog/woman bestiality. Most recently, Miike made murder into the subject of a life-affirming musical in THE HAPPINESS OF THE KATUKURIS. And so on. This time out, Miike flips his taboo-breaker into overdrive and inflicts grievous bodily harm on viewers who have come to expect nothing less than jaw-dropping outrage. Any film that begins with opening titles that congeal into words from a peeping tom's spent seminal fluids is certain to offend all but the most jaded.
