David Cronenberg's bold and unsettling adaptation of the seemingly unfilmable
'beat' classic by William S Burroughs. Instead of trying to make
a film of the book, Cronenberg has taken bits and pieces of the novel along with
'beat' ideals and fused them with events from Burrough's own life,
creating a hallucinogenic stream of consciousness that works on many levels and
manages to be distinctively Cronenberg film while somehow remaining true in
spirit to the source material. Highly recommended.
